About

Growing up, my family moved frequently until we finally settled on the coast in Bridlington. As a teenager, I found my sanctuary in the sea, spending countless hours swimming and embracing the coastal life. After finishing school, I stumbled into a career as a carpet fitter, a job that I've dedicated myself to for over 40 years.
Bridlington is where I met my wife, and we've enjoyed 38 wonderful years of marriage. Together, we've raised a son who has given us the joy of a grandson. My grandson keeps me on my toes, filling my life with energy and love.
Photography has always been my escape from the pressures of running my own business. There's nothing quite like setting off early in the morning, while it's still dark, and feeling the anticipation build as I approach a location, hoping for that perfect sunrise. Sometimes the sunrise doesn't meet my expectations, but the thrill of the chase keeps me coming back, time and time again.
I got into photography quite organically, starting with a Canon AE1 when I was about 16. Back then, everything was film-based, and I even dabbled in developing and printing my own photos. My next camera was a Ricoh XRP, which I mainly used for family snapshots.
However, it wasn't until around 2012 that my interest in photography truly blossomed. Despite living near an incredible coastline, it was actually a trip to the Lake District that rekindled my passion. For my birthday, my wife gifted me a Canon 7D, and this gift became a turning point for me.
Upon returning home, I attended a two-day long exposure workshop around Whitby, Saltburn, and South Gare. The experience was transformative. The techniques I learned and the beauty I was able to capture ignited a deep passion for seascape photography. This workshop was the catalyst that turned a casual interest into a dedicated pursuit. In 2014, I joined the Guild of Photographers, embarking on a path of professional growth and development. After three years of dedication, I achieved Qualified status in 2017. The following year, I elevated my standing within the Guild by earning the prestigious Craftsman distinction. Throughout my journey, I consistently entered the Guild's monthly image competitions, receiving multiple gold and silver awards for my work.

As part of the GuruShots photography game, my work has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and international exhibitions around the world. These include Espaço Espelho d'Água Gallery in Lisbon, Portugal; the WPPI Exposition at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas; MIA Photo Fair in Milan, Italy; Laurent Gallery in Melbourne, Australia; FotoZA Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa; and ALMANAQUE Fotográfica in Mexico City. My work has also been featured in galleries such as Valid World Hall in Barcelona, BBA Circle Gallery in Berlin, Stills: Centre for Photography in Edinburgh, Brick Lane Gallery in London, and The SPACE Art Gallery in Vancouver.
